MACARICO
The company that we particularly like is Macarico, a wonderful estate
that produces grand wines. Their most appreciated wine is Aglianico
del Vulture D.O.C., which contains exclusively the
Aglianico grapes.
The vineyards are located in the three most celebrated winemaking areas
of the Vulture area: Titolo, Cerro & Macarico. The Aglianico
grape is one of the lesser know Italian varietals but it deserves
much more attention today and in the future. The 30-years old vineyard
is located at 500m above sea level, and is about 2 hectares in size.
The wine is aged in barriques for 18 months.
This wine marks the return of Rino Botte to
Basilicata winemaking. The winemaker started "daccapo", or
from the head, redefining the entire winemaking process. The
relationship created with the wine and the vineyard is nothing short
of fatherly affection. Passion and accountability to no one but self
for the quality of wine distinguish Macarico. |
