Amarone “VO” 2007
This wine I have selected after many year of research. Amarone is one of the wines you have to fall in love with – there is no half-way or negotiation. You have to fall head over heels. This specific Amarone has a huge structure, a big potential and it’s very straight. And that is the reason why I called this wine “VO” which in Serbian means “Bull.” This wine can set in motion some pretty substantial thoughts. In effect, this is a wine for meditation: with a meal, after a meal, this wine always brings in its charisma and inspires languid thoughts. Match it with serious meat (braised beef or lamb) and after dinner with a piece of aged cheese.
Region: Veneto
Grape variety: Corvina, Rondinella, Molinara

Supertuscan Tony Sasa Selection 2007
"Krofna" – that is the best word to describe this wine. In Serbian this word means a “doughnut”. Commercially speaking, this is a perfect wine for me. It is made really well. It is chubby and tasty in all the right ways. But because “doughnut” might be too strange a name for this wine, I chose to call it Krofna.
While this wine is a recent discovery for me, it reminds me of my childhood and of my grandmother, Baba Mica, who made so many doughnuts, or Krofne, for me.

Soave Noi 2009
The label has been drawn by my daughter Martina. She is an artist about to happen, and while she makes a mess with her paints and pencils, she has an uncanny serenity when she draws, and her spontaneity demonstrates what we love about the taste of wine. This soave is “suave” as Martina: she is 4 years old but her face is super serious when she draws and she expresses what makes our family so strong and happy. That’s why this wine is called “Noi” or “Us” in Italian. Soave is the kind of wine that brings together the whole family and everyone around, so this name “Noi” is quite befitting for the personality of the wine itself.
Region: Veneto
Grape variety: Garganega

Barbaresco “Bric Mentina” 2007

I consider this an exceptional wine, easier to drink and approach than Barolo but with the same nobile Nebbiolo tannins. This wine enhances any great, well-structured dish, from pasta to meat.
The 2006 vintage is great, the 2005 is perhaps a little easier and ready to drink. The 2008 is similar to the 2006, another great vintage.
Region: Piemonte
Grape variety: Nebbiolo

Brunello di Montalcino Martina
This wine was born several years ago, in 2003, the year in which only 2000 bottles of this reserve were produced. To this day, this vintage is showing a fantastic potential.
In 2005 we introduced Brunello di Montalcino Martina 2005 Black label – a wine designated only for export. A limited production of 5000 bottles was made.

The 2006 vintage is quite different – although it will need some years to get to the right point of maturity, it is really lovely already. Just to mention, James Suckling has rated this wine 94 points.

Nerochiaro Aglianico
This is our enoteca’s southern wine selection, and it comes from Campania, the region that surrounds Naples. Aglianico is a grape variety that has been cultivated in this area for more than 2000 years. This historical wine deserves careful attention: for its body, flavour and fruitfulness.
Nerochiaro is an elegant aglianico that resembles a fine pinot noir. From the very first sip to the last one, this wine enchants. The bright ruby red color is not particularly deep, because the fermentation with skins lasts only 7 days. The bouquet is intriguing, full and elegant, hinting at blueberries and plum marmalade, with balsamic undertones. On palate it is agile, well defined, and it fills the mouth beautifully, with the right level of freshness. The finish is amazingly clean and lasting, with a distinct Mediterranean warmth and some undertones of wild herbs and soft spices. This wine is a rare jewel.

Etna Rosso “Le Vigne di Eli” 2007
This is a really interesting wine that comes from a small producer in Etna area. The number of bottles produced is miniscule and it’s made from the grape Nerello Mascalese. Nerello is an indigenous grape variety for Etna, and it has a big history and an awesome aging potential.
I found this wine very friendly, and it shows that it’s made with an immense passion. This wine is best understood when you are in a meditative mindset – a glass to match with the right mood and the right moment.

Monferrato Rosso 2007
Nebbiolo is a great grape that can give great emotions to any wine appreciator, especially to those who like big austere tannins. The label for this wine uses a painting of a famous Florentine artist Giancarlo Ferruggia. http://www.ferruggia.net/
In this wine my great winemaker friend Giorgio Boeri has demonstrated his potential in giving us real emotions.
Region: Piemonte
Grape variety: Nebbiolo

Enoteca Pontevecchio IGT Toscana 2008
This special blend has been developed especially by and for Enoteca Pontevecchio: it is a blend of 90% Sangiovese grape and 10% Syrah grape.
This wine reflects the soul of the Tuscan soil: the wine comes from the Nobile area that has been cultivated by the most expert farmers and extolled by Tuscany’s famous poets. Tuscany is for me the part of the world that still keep fables alive, and I am always delighted when Florence itself inspires visitors to drive and explore the Tuscan countryside, and visit areas such as Chianti Classico, Montalcino, Montepulciano. This is where the heart of Italy beats, and with a bit of luck on your journey you will encounter some elves, princes and magicians.

Grape variety: Sangiovese and Syrah
